10 New Year’s Success Habits For The Divine Entrepreneur

So the tree is taken down, the Yule log burned out, the eggnog all gone and the lights put away. The new year is here! It’s a time of reflection, looking forward, and making positive changes. Perhaps you’ve made a few New Year’s Resolutions for your life and business.

Personally, I’ve never had much luck with New Year’s Resolutions because the vibe feels punishing, not promising – like I’m going to have to work hard or struggle to create the positive change that I want.

That’s when I hit upon the idea of creating New Year’s habits. Habits are small, simple shifts that support you. They’re manageable, so you’re much more likely to succeed, especially if you take them one at a time. Best of all, habits create an environment that pull you forward and add up to BIG results over the long haul.

Below are 10 tried, true and simple Divine Feminine success habits for the new year. Turn even 2 or 3 of them into new habits and you’ll be amazed at how quickly you make positive shifts in your life and business – without effort, strain or struggle.

1. Honor your Divine Feminine Gift of Creativity daily. Your creativity, not your list, is your true source of income because it’s your creativity behind your programs, services, partnerships, relationships, marketing and all the other yumminess in your business.

That’s why you MUST protect your creativity (and creative time) like the valued asset it is. Remember, you simply can’t manifest when your energy is depleted!

2. Receive support daily. Consistent daily support is a necessity, not a luxury, for the Divine Feminine Entrepreneur. You simply cannot go it alone and expect to succeed. Coaches, mentors, assistants, web designers, and your emotional support system are all critical members of your team.

Receiving power tip: When you feel yourself pushing or struggling, that’s your cue to stop and check in: “Would a million dollar business owner be doing this task?” If not, delegate!

3. Pay yourself twice per month. Yes, you can do it! The secret is to focus on the action, not the amount, and take a no-excuses policy. Paying yourself first is a key practice in activating the Divine Feminine Gift of Receiving, which will allow you to receive even more.

4. Follow up with potential clients. Contrary to popular belief (and what your squishy mind is probably telling you), follow-up is a gift. When you get out of your ego (“they’re not really interested,” “I don’t want to pester,” etc) and check in from a place of caring and consideration, your clients will feel seen, acknowledged, and deeply appreciated. Check in at just the right time, and they’ll hire you.

5. Reconnect with current and past clients. Most spirit-driven entrepreneurs neglect past clients – a big mistake. A high percentage of satisfied clients will want more support from you, once the first program or contract is finished.

Make a habit of personally connecting and checking in with your peeps from time to time. They’ll feel the love, and you’ll both get the benefit of working together more often.

6. Track your income daily. This deceptively simple practice is one of THE most powerful, potent steps you can take to automatically start making more. (One of my clients reported 3 five figure months in a row shortly after starting this practice.)

Important tip: your motto when tracking is “it all counts.” Spouse’s income, gift money from Grandma, pennies on the street – it all counts. (Got a question about this? The answer is, “it all counts.”)

7. Commit to “just one thing” daily. To keep your marketing truly simple, stick to basic tried and true principles and adopt the magical practice that I like to call “just one thing”: every day, do just one thing to build your business, no matter how small.

“Just one thing” uses the Japanese principle of kaizen: big results come in continuous small increments over time. Commit to just one thing daily and you’ll never have to worry about where your clients are coming from ever again.

8. Let go of just one thing daily. Obligations, mundane tasks, and administrivia all chew up your precious Divine Feminine energy. So do damaging emotional habits like comparison, fear and doubt, and being too hard on yourself. Create the space for your Divine Feminine Gifts to flourish by asking yourself this question daily: “What can I let go of?” (Here, too, it all counts!)

9. Invest in your learning, growth and expansion. When you invest time, energy, attention and money in your own growth, you are essentially paying yourself… and the results can never be taken away. Find a coaching group or mastermind, schedule time to read or listen to the content, and implement.

10. Gratitude. You know it feels good. You know it works! Now all that’s left is to make it a habit. If you haven’t been giving thanks DAILY for all the money, business and success you DO have, now is the perfect time to start. Complete this sentence 5 times: “Today, I feel rich because…”

Best wishes for a rich and successful New Year!

From One Goddess To Another: Did you see this secret millionaire?

photo curtosy of realitytvmagazine.sheknows.comLast night I watched a replay of the season finale of the hit ABC reality show, Secret Millionaire, featuring none other than internet entrepreneur extraordinaire Ali Brown.

In case you’re not familiar with the show, here’s the premise. In each episode, a self-made millionaire goes “undercover” for a week to an impoverished community. The cover story is that they’re doing a documentary on volunteering, but in reality, they are looking for organizations to support and at the end of the week, donate $100,000 of their own money.

You can watch the episode with Ali Brown here. (Or just Google – it’s also on Hulu.com.)

The show brought up a lot for me, so there are many a-has I could share. (Indeed, I actually had something else planned for this article today, but after last night, I decided to save it for later because the show moved me so much.)

The first of these was around waiting. Namely, when it comes to your big contribution, what are you waiting for? (And yes, I’m asking myself that question, too.)

It’s no secret that I believe that spiritual women entrepreneurs are poised to create and facilitate the massive change our world is crying out for right now. One of the biggest reasons we go into business in the first place is to give back.

Yet, many women entrepreneurs do a lot of the wrong kinds of giving – giving away our time, undercharging, and giving services for free. And they wait to do the kinds of giving they really want – donations of money and time to organizations they care about.

It’s another version of “Someday I’ll be able to…” “Someday I’ll have enough money and time to donate to…”

Last night, I was reminded that building a business is a journey, that “someday” is actually right now, and that all of us can actually choose how and when we contribute.

Meaning… if you’re feeling like you “can’t” contribute because your current monthly income is too low… ask yourself, “What amount would I need to make in order to give away X and feel great about it?” (Change your number, in other words. Yes, you can do this!)

And, “What do I have to say ‘no’ to… in order to say YES to my contribution and my mission, starting right now?”

Remember that there’s a true cost to giving yourself away in the wrong way – not just for you, but for your bigger impact, as well.

So here’s my coach’s question for you. What’s one cause you’re passionate about, and what’s one shift you’re going to make in your business to allow you to give back NOW? (As opposed to later?)

Bright blessings and massive success to you…

On April 14 (that’s this Thursday), Ali will be hosting a special fr’e’e call where she’ll be sharing about her experience on Secret Millionaire and answering questions. You can bet I’ll be there, and I invite you to join me. You can register here: http://www.alibrown.com/secretmillionairecall.html

Every moment is an opportunity to receive

Recently I attended a workshop with Debbie Rosas, founder of the Nia Technique, called Awakening The New Feminine Spirit. At the beginning of the workshop, Debbie lead us through a powerful exercise on receiving.

All around me, women were experiencing breakthroughs. Meanwhile, I was having a mini-meltdown. :(

(This is what the coaches in my mastermind call “The Elizabeth Purvis Transparency Model” – ha!)

During the discussion that followed, women shared their insights – some small, some profound… almost universally positive. Am I the only one struggling with this? I thought.

Finally, I raised my hand. “Um…” I said tentatively. “Am I the only one with the big blocks to receiving right now?”

Debbie smiled at me with kindness and said, “How can it be hard? You’re receiving all day long.”

I pondered that as she walked over (in possibly the most awesome boots ever in the history of anything) and held out her hand. “See? Hi, I’m Debbie.”

And finally, I got it. Hi, I’m Elizabeth. We are receiving all day long.

Receive a breath.

Receive your food.

Receive the sunlight.

Receive a smile.

Every moment is an opportunity to receive. Problem is, we don’t stop, so we don’t receive. And so we want more, more, more.

As women, we are designed to receive. “And when you do,” says Debbie, “all sorts of amazing things begin to happen.”

(Yeah, I can vouch for that. ;) )

My coach’s request to you this week is to consciously receive. To help you, I’ll share a little mantra I created for my Goddess Business School goddesses:

As a goddess, I receive.

Bright blessings and massive success to you…

3 Tell-Tale Signs That It’s Time To Raise Your Fees

When it comes to fees and charging, most spiritual women feel a lot of conflict. We’re spiritual, we’re women… it’s a double-whammy of cultural conditioning that says “give it all away.”

Thing is, this leads to women chronically undercharging and waiting far too long to charge what their work is really worth. It may feel giving and generous, but as the saying goes, you can’t give when your cup is empty. Ultimately, undercharging leaves you depleted and defeats your purpose of making a big impact in the world.

Here are 3 “dead giveaways” (and one bonus!) that both you and your clients will be better served by giving yourself a raise:

Tell-Tale Sign #1: You’re exhausted instead of juiced.

Back when I was a direct response copywriter, I would spend hours and hours and hours and hours (did I mention hours?) on projects that paid very little. Sure, the money was nice when it was coming in, but 40+ hours on the project later … let’s just say it was hard to stay motivated. And I love writing.

Doing what you love should inspire, well, love. And gratitude. If you’re not feeling the love, that’s a big clue that you’re falling far short of receiving money in alignment with the energy you’re giving – and you simply can’t sustain that for the long haul.

Tell-Tale Sign #2: You feel resentful towards your clients.

Ironically, women who undercharge often find themselves attracting needy and demanding clients. But even the best of clients can become a drain when you’re not charging enough. (Or not charging enough and overdelivering!) If you’re feeling resentful and feeling guilty… it’s time for a shift.

Tell-Tale Sign #3: You’re working constantly and still just getting by.

You can always create more money, but you can never create more time. So when you’re signing on clients and charging too little, what happens? You get burned out… quickly.

One of my past Platinum clients was in a situation where she had two choices: continue to serve the last few clients in the “old way” of working (dollars for hours), or release them with love if they weren’t ready to step into her new high-end packages. The decision was really weighing on her because they were awesome clients who she deeply cared about. (There was a lot of history there, too – all of them had been with her for years.)

With a little coaching, she had a huge breakthrough: saying yes to those old clients would have meant saying no to herself – her own needs, self-care, time with her family, and her dreams of a much bigger business. (And the opportunity to give those clients something bigger to step into, as well.)

And here’s one more tell-tale sign you’re charging too little…

When clients consistently quibble about your already-low fees, chances are it’s time to raise them. Counter-intuitive, I know, but experience has shown this again and again. (Indeed, back in my copywriting days, increasing the price of a floundering offer would often increase conversion.)

“But Elizabeth,” you may be saying, “My fees are already way too low and people are complaining. How can I raise them when I can’t even get them to say yes now?” (I hear this all the time!)

The way to authentically increasing your fees is this…

To increase your fees and feel great about it, you must stay connected to the value of the transformation your clients get. What really gets to happen for them as a result of your work? How can their lives change when they step up and you step up… together?

Often this means letting go of the clients who aren’t a fit for the value you provide, and turning your attention to those who are. Remember, energy follows energy. When you own your value first, you’ll naturally attract clients who value you… and themselves as well.

What to say when they say “Yes, but…”

So you’re sharing your fabulous program with a potential client. You both know it’s perfect and you can feel her getting excited about the transformation within her reach! You say your new higher fee (without choking – yeeha!) and…

… the next words you hear are “I’d love to, BUT…”

“… I can’t afford it…”

“… It’s not the right time right now…”

“… I need to check with my spouse…”

“… I need to check with my gut – can I get back to you?”

First things first: don’t freak out! The “yes, but” is a concern, or objection… and you’ll hear them around 80% of the time. (Remember, where there’s massive transformation afoot, there is also fear.)

Many spiritual solopreneurs get wiggy about objections, but they’re actually a great thing. They mean that your client is really interested. They know you’re offering them an opportunity to change their lives and they want to step into it. Problem is, they’re just a little afraid. And they need you to support them through it.

Now here’s the secret behind objections and what you MUST do when your client says “I’d love to, but…” (This is the key to smoothly sailing through concerns so that they can embrace the transformation they truly want…)

Their “Yes, BUT” is the real reason why they’re on the phone with you today, right now. That’s what they really and truly need support on, in this moment. Because no matter what “yes, but” may be… it has stopped them before, and it is showing up somewhere else in their life to stop them over and over again.

That’s why coaching your potential clients on their “Yes, BUT”s is actually a tremendous gift. Here’s how to sail smoothly through the top 3 (make that only 3) “I’d love to… but”s so they can say yes to the transformation they truly want…

1. “I’d love to, but… I don’t have the money.”

Most solopreneurs take the money objection at face value, without realizing that “I can’t afford it” is rarely, if ever, really about the money. Your job in that moment is to find out if it’s really about the money, or it’s about something else. (Again, 90% of the time, it’s the latter.)

Here’s the question that will instantly give you your answer:

“Assuming money wasn’t an issue, is this something that you’d like to do?”

If they say “yes” hesitantly… then it really isn’t the money. You can just say, “You sound hesitant, is there something else?” This will open the door to discovering the real issue… and coaching them through it.

2. “I’d love to, but… I don’t have the time.”

We all have the same 24 hours in a day, so the time objection is really about priorities. You can find out if they’re truly swamped (or just a little scared) with this question:

“If I waved a magic wand and created all kinds of time in your schedule, is this something you’d want to move forward with?”

If they say “Yes, absolutely,” then they only think they don’t have time. You’ll help them by exploring what’s eating all their time and get clear on what’s really important to them.

3. “I’d love to, but… I need to think about it.”

You need to be careful with this one, because without your love and support, because the fear your client is undoubtedly feeling can quickly take over during “thinking time.” And that would be tragic.

If your program is a fit for them, “I have to think about it” usually means “I’m afraid” or “I don’t know if I can do this.” To open the dialogue, simply say, “What is it that you need to think about?”

That might sound a little blunt, but when delivered with sincerity and grace, your client will actually breathe a sigh of relief. They will know that you care and that they need not be alone with their fear as they take this powerful next step.

Bonus tip: don’t be afraid to say what you really think and feel. Remember, your client’s “yeah, buts” are what they need healing on, in this moment, to move forward with their dream. Being fully present and pointing out what you see is blocking their success is a gift of caring, generosity and love.
