Quick And Easy Content Ideas For Your Ezine, Articles And Blog

One of THE highest places of leverage (i.e., big results for a relatively small amount of work) in your business is your newsletter. Publishing a consistent email newsletter builds relationship with your clients, positions you as the expert AND the go-to person for your clients when they decide that yes, it’s time to get their problem solved once and for all.

When my clients ask me how often I recommend that they send out their newsletter, they’re often surprised by my answer.  To get the full benefits of your newsletter (including easily filling your programs and successful launches), the answer is: weekly.

“But Elizabeth!” you might be saying… “What the heck am I going to write about?” With this handy list of ideas, you’ll never fear the blank screen again…

Think about what you REALLY do for your clients.  In other words, the problem that you solve.  (For example, if you’re a massage therapist, you can give them tips on relaxation or stress management. )

Areas where you’d like your clients to think of you as an expert. If you’re giving workshops on women’s empowerment, for example, write articles on that.  If you’re helping your clients access their intuition, write articles on that.  Think of why people come to you, and why you’d like them to come to you.

Exercises. Do you take your clients through exercises and assignments?  You can write an article on the topic and use the exercise in your newsletter.   If you’re reading a great book with exercises, maybe share one (credit the source). Exercises provide real value to your readers, as they’re helping them solve a problem.

News and updates. What’s going on with you.  This is best suited for the intro section, probably, or the promotional section if you’re giving classes.  If you’ve gone to professional events, like a seminar, recently – tell your peeps!  It also lets them know that you’re doing things the experts do, and are investing in yourself, which means you’re investing in THEM.

Frequently asked questions. Are there topics that come up over and over again in your practice?  Write an article about them.  Psychic consultants – do your clients ask the same questions over and over again?  I bet they do!  So write articles on those topics.

Ask your clients what they’re most interested in learning more about.  Simple, and gets you in touch with them again right away.  Simply say, “I’m working on a newsletter.  Can you help me help you by answering a simple question?  What would you like to know more about?”  Your clients will love to be asked for their opinion.

Real-life examples or case studies. If you’ve been working on a problem with a client, use that as a means of offering more general advice.  Show how you’ve helped clients address challenges.  Make sure you keep the focus on the client and the solutions than talking about YOU.  And be SURE you respect confidentiality and boundaries, of course.  Get permission before revealing a person’s identity.

A list of tips on a particular subject. People love lists.

A how-to. People LOVE how-tos.  The trick is to keep your steps high-level.  High-level how-to’s are also great because they invite your readers to work with you.  (You can use a how-to to promote a product that goes into more detail, for example.)

Useful take-aways from seminars, classes, and even the books you’re reading. Did you go to an event or industry conference, or even learn something really useful from an article or book?  Share it!  Sharing what you learn at events is one of the best ways to add value to your peeps, while letting them know that you’re learning and growing.

Q & A. Invite your readers to ask you short questions and answer one in each issue.  Pick questions that highlight your expertise.  Readers love that you’ve given them your attention, and gives them a reason to read your ezine (“Did she answer my question?”)

Interview others. Interviews are an EXTREMELY powerful marketing tool.  An interview gives you near-instant content for your readers and helps you create powerful relationships with other practitioners.  Find someone whose work compliments yours, and interview them.  It’s exposure for them, content for you, and now you have a relationship – a basis for working together in the future.

Browse books, industry publications, blogs and websites for more ideas. Because ideas are everywhere.  The web devours content like crazy.  Find good blogs and websites, and model their content – there is nothing wrong with that!  Don’t plagiarize, obviously.  But don’t worry about “it’s been done before.”  Everything has been thought of before, that’s not important.  YOU covering that topic, now that’s something entirely unique.

Along the same lines, sign up for email newsletters from other people in your industry.  It’s practically guaranteed that someone in your industry is doing a newsletter already.  What are they up to?  Sign up for their newsletters and see.  While you’re reading, ask yourself, what do I like?  What don’t I like?

Fun things that create a connection and your readers will enjoy. Add a little fun and create a personal connection between you.  Recipes.  Quotes.  Meditations.  If it’s appropriate, go ahead and do something fun!  (Bonus tip: don’t forget to show your personality in your articles!)

Really stuck?  Borrow articles. The web is full of places where you can get content for your newsletter for free.  Most you can use immediately, and authors have given permission for you to reprint them.  You just have to use the entire article (ie, keep it intact) and make sure to include the author’s contact information.  The best site for free articles (it’s the granddaddy of them all): http://www.EzineArticles.com

Try not to do this too often – remember that your newsletter is to promote YOU and establish YOUR expertise.  But there’s nothing wrong with doing this once in a while.

Your Turn:

Whether you choose offline or online, it’s time to start your newsletter.  No excuses!  J

I highly, highly recommend starting with an email newsletter.  If you’ve added an opt-in on your website to capture names and emails, you’ve already got a list to start with.  But if that’s too challenging, simply start with a 1-page offline newsletter to your best clients.

Make a commitment to publishing your newsletter consistently for 90 days.

Skip the fear, go straight into action

Straight up: I’ve been feeling a lot of fear lately. (Surprised?)

Now, I’m not talking about wigging out over money or the economy or anything like that. (Nor am I partaking of doomsday/armageddon scenarios, despite being caught in my first-ever California earthquake a couple of weeks ago. *laugh*)

I’m talking about the kind of fear that comes with taking that whole “putting myself out there in a BIG way” thing to the next level.

2010 has turned into a year of massive personal and professional growth. On top of all that, I’m preparing for a major life change – leaving my beloved Northeast for a new city that’s completely across the country.

I’ve had more than a few people suggest that I pull back a little and take it slow. But I’ve chosen to do exactly the opposite – to not walk but RUN to the other side of my fear (and the next level) by taking massive action. The pipeline for the next 90 days includes…

  • A complete overhaul of MarketingGoddess.com.. and the announcement of a brand NEW platform that I will be launching soon. It’s a project that is near and dear to me and gets to the core of my calling. It has also been in the works (and in my head) for a loooong time. I’m very excited (and more than a little nervous!)
  • A lot more “getting out there” to coincide with the new websites as I seek to actively grow the Marketing Goddess circle for the first time. (We’ve been growing steadily all along, but it’s time for a little intentional listbuilding!)
  • The announcement of my upcoming Platinum group coaching program to start in mid-summer

Notice that NONE of the above is busywork, worrying or “marketing churning.” Believe me, the fear is there! But instead of letting it stop me, I’ve decided to focus on moving forward. And here’s the crazy part…

… the fear is actually starting to let up – a LOT. (Action conquers fear – who knew?)

Here’s what I’ve learned that I’d like to share with you…

When we’re in the thick of it, we don’t realize that just on the other side of the fear is all the good stuff that we want. And that all we need to do to get a little relief from the fear is to tell that part of us that’s wired for survival, “Thank you, but I’ve got it handled”… and move on.

My coach’s request to you is to notice where you’re feeling fear this week. Instead of giving in and staying stuck, gently inform the fear that you’ve got it handled. And take the next bold step towards your goal. Bright blessings and massive success to you…

How To Consistently Increase Your Fees (Without Feeling Guilty)

“Give every man more in use value than you take from him in cash value; then you are adding to the life of the world by every business transaction.” -Wallace Wattles, The Science Of Getting Rich

If you’ve been struggling to create abundance in your life and business you can solve the problem once and for all by doing just one thing: add more value.

If you’ve experienced my coaching or teaching on pricing, you’ve heard me say that the key to increasing your fees authentically and consistently is to focus on the value your clients get from working with you.  Well, the same is true across the board for your business as a whole!

The amount of money you make in your business is directly related to the amount of value you provide. The sooner you embrace the concept of adding value and implement it consistently, the sooner you break the “feast or famine” cycle, forever.

This link between income and value is very important.  It means YOU decide how much money you make.  If you want to create more money in your business, add more value!

So what does it mean to add value? Quite simply, it means: give people what they want.

To create incredible value, give people what they want and then some.  Exceed their expectations.  Be exceptionally generous, without depleting yourself.

“But if I’m adding all this value, doesn’t that mean I’ll be exhausted?” It’s a great question.  The answer is no.  (In fact, there’s a lot of value to be given that you can’t give on your own – you’ll need help from others.)  You can also provide lots of value in ways that are very inexpensive to you.

Here are 3 strategies to add exceptional value to what you offer:

1.  Add high value packages and programs to your business model. So what are they?

  • Packages: Offering your services as a package, instead of one-on-one. Example: package of 10 or more sessions @ $795 instead of just 1 @ $100
  • Programs: A group of services, classes, information products, etc that provide your clients with a specific result or outcome.

Adding packages and programs to your business model is one of the best ways to add more value for both your clients AND you.  Here’s why…

  • Your clients will work with you longer and get better results (providing more value to them!)
  • You’ll work with them for longer periods of time, which means more income stability for you
  • Because you’re providing more value, you can (and should) charge more
  • Because you’re providing more value, your clients will take it more seriously and say yes far more often
  • With programs, you create it once, then sell it over and over and over again. (You can provide your program to a group and get even MORE leverage.)

High value programs and packages allow you to leverage your resources and create a lot more income in far less time. That’s why I recommend moving away from strictly 1-on-1 services to packages and programs as quickly as possible.  (Best part?  You can implement this strategy in just minutes!)

2. Adding high-value extras. One of the easiest ways to set yourself apart is to add extra value with client extras.  Everyone likes to get a little something extra.  It makes your clients feel good and it makes you memorable.  Best of all, extras inspire your clients to tell their friends about you.

To give you some ideas, I’ve created  a special report for you, which you can download here:

http://marketinggoddess.com/downloads/20-ways-to-add-value.pdf

3. Creating experiences. People who are willing to pay high prices – affluent and mass affluent consumers – and believe me, there are more of them than you might think – are paying for an experience.

One very easy way to receive more for what you do is to look very closely at the EXPERIENCE you’re providing. What’s it like to work with you?  What kind of experience do you provide?

For example, my mentor Kendall SummerHawk works her horses into her coaching programs.  Her clients pay well into five figures to spend a day or two with her and the horses in a retreat-like atmosphere.  She also provides pampering, goodie bags, spa-like catering, and a limo ride to and from the airport.  All of these sound very high overhead, but she keeps her costs low.

You want to create experiences that people can’t find anywhere else. When you provide these experiences, people start TALKING.  They are unique.  They set you apart.

Experience includes everything, from how quickly you return calls to the information, caring and support you provide. Are you true to your word?  Do you do what you say you will when you say you will?

As you create your packages and programs, ask yourself, “How can I create an even better experience?”

Your “Back To Basics” Springtime Marketing Checklist

Spring is officially here, the sun is shining, everyone’s getting back to business… and believe it or not (I’m not gonna say the “E” word), your clients are ready to do business. They need support with whatever they’ve got going on, and they’re willing to spend mo-ney to get it.  But will they spend it with you?

Of course, we want that answer to be a resounding YES!  Thing is, if you’re not prepared, the opportunities to bring in new business will slip right through your fingers. That’s why it’s the perfect time to get back to marketing basics and cover your bases.  Here’s a handy checklist of what you should have in place to make the most of the spring season.

1. Make sure you can clearly communicate WHAT you do and WHO you do it for. Pop quiz: what’s your answer to the perennial question, “So what do you do?”  If it’s a little shaky, now is the time to tighten it up a bit.  Make sure your “So what do you do?” statements are in language that is simple and easy for everyone to understand – no jargon.  Make sure you have them down so that the right one rolls off your tongue when the question is asked.

Remember, your business grows as you grow, and “what you do” will always shift and change.  So should your marketing message!  If you’ve been channeling the same answer for years, it’s time to revist.

2. Get in some face time. Trust and relationships are of the utmost importance to your profitability right now, and nothing beats face-to-face meeting for developing both.  My coach’s request to you: get thee to some networking events!  If you hate networking events (and believe me, I get it – I certainly used to), think of these gatherings as opportunities to connect and share, not schmooze.

Of course, as with all of your marketing strategies, you’ll want to select your events carefully because your time is your most important resource.  Choose the events that will connect you with potential clients and partners, and that you think you would enjoy.  (Speaking of things you enjoy, places where you already hang out can be some of the best places to make connections, so be present to the networking opportunities that are around you all the time.)

Lastly, the spring seminar season is here!  Don’t miss the big events in your industry as they are the perfect place to begin lucrative, long-term relationships with movers and shakers.

3. Perfect your follow-up. If you don’t have a system for following up with all of the people you meet, now is the time to start.  I’m not talking about your email newsletter here, though you should have one too (yes, as of this writing, I firmly believe that some sort of ezine is not optional).  I’m talking about a system to follow up with people who you have met in person and who have expressed interest in working with you now or in the future.

Making the transition from “someone you met at an event” to a client requires reaching out (read: picking up the phone), finding out what’s going on and how you can help. How you set the tone in the beginning, both at the initial meeting and with your follow-up has everything to do with who becomes a client and who doesn’t!

4. Create your Bold Money Goal. Do you know how much mo’ney you would like to create in the next 90 days?  If not, it’s time to decide!  Your Bold Money Goal will help you get very clear on what activities deserve your precious time and what you can let go of.  Be very clear as to the amount you wish to make AND what the money is FOR.

5. Create a plan for bringing in new business. It’s all well and good to set a goal, but if there’s no way for that mo’ney to get to you, it won’t.  When creating a Bold Money Goal, I always create the channels by which the money can come in, as well as setting the goal.  What programs will I offer?  Who in my current list of contacts would be a great fit for those offerings?  How many clients would I like to work with, and is that congruent with my goal?

Note updating your website is nowhere to be found on this list of basics  If you can speak your message clearly (#1) and stay in conversation with your peeps (#2 and #3), you can bring in new business and income immediately. Focus on getting into service (i.e., getting a few new clients) first, then you can always go back and turn your website into a lead-generating, relationship-building machine.
