Can’t Get A Mentor? Get Resourceful

Wallace Shawn ~ The Princess BrideIt’s no secret that the fastest way to success is to get a mentor who has been there, done that. We all know that, right? I certainly did, even when I was starting out.

Nonetheless, there was definitely a time in my business when the thought of paying big bucks for a mentor was simply incomprehensible. (Or “Inconceivable!”, as that guy from The Princess Bride would say.)

I knew I needed a mentor, badly. But I honestly didn’t know how I was going to pay for it. I know I’m not alone here!

Straight up: if I were to turn back the clock and change ONE thing about how my business has unfolded, I would have stepped up, invested in myself and FOUND the money to pay for a mentor. Unfortunately, I truly didn’t believe that I had the power to manifest the money I needed for a mentor.

These days, I know that belief is complete and utter crap. (Pardon my French, but it’s true.) But back then, I was so far deep into my self-doubt, lack and limitation that there was just no way I could have found that awareness. There was just no way.

So instead I got resourceful. Instead I asked, “Okay, what COULD I do?”

I looked around, I found an opportunity, and I took it. I found a reasonably priced option and worked it like nothing else. I listened to every call recording in that coaching club like it was going to save my life. (I know that sounds a little dramatic, but it’s how I felt.)

I could have looked at that opportunity and thought, “There’s no way I can afford this, either.” I could have used the same excuse. It was $147 per month and I had no idea where that money was going to come from. But I just couldn’t accept the idea that I couldn’t make $147 per month appear. I couldn’t accept that belief about myself.

Here’s the thing: getting what you want will ALWAYS take an investment in yourself in both time AND money. Investing money in a mentor will save you time, because that person can take you by the hand and show you exactly what to do.

If you’re not able to invest money, you can count on investing a lot of extra time. (I spent 2-3 hours per day – yes, per DAY – just listening to the calls in that coaching program, and many more hours per week implementing what I learned.)

How committed are you to your own success? If you don’t have the money for a mentor, it’s time to get resourceful! What opportunities can you take to change your situation?

I have no doubt that you have at LEAST one great opportunity right in front of you. It’s up to YOU to take it… and to do the work required.

Bright blessings and massive success…
